Enjoy a new book by Timothy Bentley

 From Max Kerman’s Introduction:

As a photographer, Timothy Bentley’s calling is to share images that otherwise we might never experience. Take a look at how he brings his unique eye to each encounter.

In the city, a rainstorm has left a puddle, which pedestrians are busy avoiding. But Timothy looks deep into the water, to discover a special reflection that might briefly inhabit it.

In a park, passersby glance briefly at Henry Moore’s famous sculpture. But Timothy is sighting through its twin apertures, to discover what no one else has noticed, the unity of a family in three generations.

At a café patio, we’re enjoying a cup of coffee. But in the alleyway behind, Timothy has discovered a wall painting of a woman whose remarkable dignity contrasts with the trash and debris that surrounds her.

Out on the water as day ends, holidayers notice the pretty sky. But this photographer’s camera is focused on the human dimension: a young fisher – silhouetted and solitary, casting his lonely line into the reflective water.

Moments like this reveal why we cherish the eye of the photographer. Timothy’s calling is to see what we might have missed. To capture a moment that would otherwise be gone in an instant. To enrich how we perceive our environment.

To slow us down, so we become conscious of every rich moment of our own lives and marvel at the diversity that surrounds us.

Over the past decade, Timothy has established himself as an observant outdoors photographer. His body of work has grown increasingly curious, even philosophical. Today, he’s engaged in gathering images of meaning in the city and countryside, reflecting both their ineffable beauty and gritty reality.

“My joy,” he says, “is to discover, to capture, and to share the sublime and astonishing reality that surrounds us.”
